Yattendon Church. The church of St Peter and St. Paul was rebuilt about the year 1450 by John Norreys. On the south wall of the nave is a white marble tablet to the memory of Sir John Norreys, who died on 3 July 1597. While teaching dance, at which Giovanni Gallini was expert, he courted and married privately, on 23 February 1763 at St James's, Westminster, Lady Elizabeth Peregrine Bertie (d. 1804), the daughter of the third Earl of Abingdon. In addition to the money and property his wife brought him, Gallini, who was famously parsimonious, accumulated a substantial fortune and rent from concerts continued to increase Gallini's personal fortune and he acquired in Yattendon Manor and property in Hampstead Norryes, Berkshire, England in 1757. He died abruptly at his home in Hanover Square on the morning of 5 January 1805 at the age of seventy-six, survived by a son and two daughters, among whom an estate said to be £150,000 was divided. He was buried at Yattendon Church, Berkshire as was his wife Lady Elizabeth Peregrine Bertie and the above picture is a marble tablet to their memory . In 1858–60 the church was rigorously restored. In 1881 the tower was repaired and the vestry added. In 1896 the tower was further restored and the present spire added.
